| As of today, I have 21 days left at the Love Boat.
Then
it's back to my life at Diamond Bar... in a room far less familiar than
the one I live in now. Morris has already moved out (and is frolicking
around in Taiwan, actually) and the room already seems sadder. I'm
having a hard time taking the initiative to begin moving and, I guess,
dealing with the idea of letting go of everything. Detachment anxiety,
anyone?
This might sound crazy to other people, but the ones
that know me best understand that it's so much more than just moving my
things and, esentially, moving on in life. This bedroom--this
apartment!--has been my "home" for the past three years (and for anyone
in college, this is a lot considering how often we move around). But
even beyond that, I've spent the last three years making this
my home. Spent endless nights painting mantle decor and bookcases and
spent days (that never seem to be long enough) in IKEA and Michael's to
find a new project to work on... or a new area of the apartment to
decorate. So, yes, moving out means letting these things go. Whether
they end up in someone else's apartment or land next to the dumpster,
they've served me well. Function and practicality... but also quite
pleasing to the eyes.
And so, a collection of photos dedicated to my bedroom at the Love Boat. For memory's sake... and shits and giggles, I suppose.
:D Magnet strips I put up on all the bedroom doors. The personalized magnet clips were used to hold mail, reminders, photos, and other goodies (as shown). Close-up of the personalized magnet clips. If you can't tell, it's me and the boyfriend. <3 Our oh-so-comfortable bed! My CADC graduation sash & 2x4 referee jersey are pinned to the wall. My cabinet basketball jersey was taken down to represent at Body Rock. Holla! Close-up of the paintings I made for the room when I first moved in. First paintings ever, actually. Bookshelf (which I bought at a garage sale, refurbished, and painted). It served as my storage area for...just about everything. And more importantly, served as my vanity area. Frontal view of my bookshelf & vanity area. Close-up of my necklaces held by hooks placed in the wall. Close-up of my make-up area. Love those containers. Close-up of my make-shift ring holder and bracelet holders. Red wall coat hanger from IKEA. Spot the Hello Kitty hat? I believe one of the first gifts from Morris before we were dating. Area above my desk. 3-D squares painted to match my room and used to showcase photos, memorabilia, and other knick-knacks. Farther shot. The area is a little messy, but can you really blame me? Close-up of 3-D squares. Money lei made by Morris and given to me at my college graduation! :D Desk organizer. It's kind of a mess at this point, but has treated me well. It spins and rotates! So, no complaining here.
Some other memorable knick-knacks:I've posted some of these before, but don't really care. Our Love Boat mantle piece. Made all in a night's labor. For detailed post on its birth, visit http://steppie.livejournal.com/56227.html. Our beautiful shower curtain! It's quite sexy, no? So,
as previously mentioned, we have 21 more days at the apartment and
we're on our last roll of toilet paper. I thought I'd make little memos
near the toilet to remind everyone. We'll see how far we can go without
another trip to Target for toilet paper. The post-it on the left was posted opposite of the toilet... for ladies and those that were taking a poopie break. The post-it on the right was posted on the same side as the toilet... for boys and those that stand when they pee. Gotta think of everyone, right? So, I guess that's it in a nutshell. A very, very big nutshell. Countdown to the 21 days is nearing. What should I do with everything? Ideas?

i just left a drunk message on the CADC forums. probably not the smartest move. but i can't help it.
i'm not ready for this year to end. three more fucking weeks, and it's over.
all
that i understand of my life, my world, my purpose right now--will end.
i'm sure there's more in store for me for the future... but to be
completely, fucking real (sorry for the cussing, but it feels so damn
good right now)... things like this, things like CADC... don't happen
all the time.
it has been a good four years. and i think i've
soaked up all that i could and given back all i could in the time that
college would allow me... but i can't believe this thing--this thing i
call my family--has an expiration date. but an expiration date won't
stop me from making these next three weeks worth-fucking-while.
i
don't care if you have a career right now or know what you're planning
to do, and maybe you think you're better off than me because you have
all your questions answered... because, really... i'm living right now.
LIVING. i feel alive, and i owe it all to this team and everything it
has taught me. what i am today, what i am tomorrow, what i am in 5
years... i owe it all to you.
CADC--present, past, future--thank you. i fall in love with you more everyday. and i wouldn't have it any other way.
| My creative mojo has been on full-blast lately. I like to blame it on
all the heat and peace of mind from the freedom of midterms and finals.
But seriously? Throw me some saucy arts&crafts books, gimme a
couple of hours in Michael's, and turn the TV to HGTV... and my
creative juice starts flowin' hardcore.
K, that was a little graphic. I apologize.
So anyway, I originally posted these in saucydwellings and ourbedrooms, but I decided to document it here too so I can remember the whole crazy process.
THE LOVEBOAT PROJECTSo,
after living in the same college apartment for three years, our mantle
began to become a storage area for random collectibles. I decided it
was time to start a project to clean up the area and help pull together
the entire living space. So, I began my brainstorming... First,
I found this near a dumpster and thought I found gold! Dragged it up my
stairs, and let it sit outside while I made my plans. Then, started my painting... Then, added my "LOVEBOAT" train... And some rope and clothespins at the bottom... Past and present residents (including pets!) of The LoveBoat (Sabiy&Kay's photo is missing): And, the second story: A closer look: And the final product: I'm thinking of adding some wheatgrass/flower action around the project to finish it off, but we'll see what I think of. :) SIDE PROJECT: CADC AGENDA BOARDLast
year, I put together an agenda board for CADC to help keep us organized
and on task during practices. It's been a year now, and although the
brick walls were cool, I thought it was time to freshen things up. I
really wanted to keep this a surprise for DC, but I thought I'd
document this while I'm at it anyway. BEFORE: Brainstorming: In the middle of the process: And the final product! I
used a lot of paper, ribbon, and pieces of cork sticker to put this
together. It took quite a bit of time to get it the way I wanted it,
but I'm quite satisfied. The clothespins at the bottom are to hold
fliers of upcoming events, photos, or our countdown before big
competitons/performances and the right side is a whiteboard to write
the agenda for the practices. RANDOM THINGSOUR BATHROOM: What a difference a new shower curtain can make... And, our new APARTMENT CALENDAR WHITEBOARD (clearboard?): Super fun!
Oye. That was intense. PEACE. \\//

So, after posting about some of my recent commitments,
I've been meaning to make a follow-up post for a while. Now that I've
got a handful of time and patience on a quiet Sunday night, looks like
it's time to whip it up. I've got a lot of photos so I decided to split
my entry into two. This first entry is a follow-up to my last one,
documenting the San Pedro wedding and some of my work at the donut shop.
EVENT PLANNING
So,
I still don't have pictures from the Malibu wedding I interned for
about a month ago. But I did remember to test out my new Canon
Powershot SD1000 (yesss!) at the San Pedro wedding I did with my sister
last week.
I was pretty nervous going into it, considering it
was my first event as actual event coordinator (usually I'm just the
nameless assistant that does a lot of the bitch work but gains none of
the pay). However, it was a good test run for me. There was little
actual planning involved since I was called on the job a week before
the wedding, and instead, did more of the coordinating, directing, and
decorating. If I learned anything that night, it's that you've gotta
constantly be on your feet. I don't know how they do it in heels. But
man, despite the cake almost getting ruined, family members not being
on the seating arrangements, and the restaurant manager being a total
douche... the bride and groom were blind to these problems and had a
wonderful reception, and that's all that really matters.
Before
the day of the reception, I decided to work on a little gift for the
bride and groom. Their party favors actually consisted of tiny weaved
picnic baskets with goodies inside, and I decided to go out and get a
larger version of the basket and make one for the lovely couple. Before: After: (Inside were some tissues, mints, advil, and other goodies they might've needed during the reception.) The head table: And the centerpieces: And the cake table: THE DONUT SHOPThey finally put up the menu I designed. The plastic still isn't fixed and my photos are crappy cos of the glare but here's the jist. The store in a nutshell: View from the window: And closer shot: That thing sucked the life out of me, but I'm pretty proud of how it came out, so I'm happy. Holla to my food-picture-taking skills! Does it make you hungry? Haha.
So, uh, anyone need some wedding plans or quick marketing? :)
